Survey of study culture in Shiraz University's faculty members

Background and aim: The importance of studying in the development of the societies is quite clear and the faculties at the universities are supposed to try more in this area compared with ordinary people. The aim of this study was to determine the study culture in Shiraz University¢s faculty members.

Material and methods: This descriptive - analytical study was conducted on 603 faculty members of Shiraz University among whom 262 persons were randomly selected using questionnaires and the average of faculty members' study was based on the hours per week. For data analysis, one-way ANOVA and independent t-test were used.

Findings: According to the research findings, the faculty members of Science College and Social Science College got the highest and lowest quantity in specialized studying with the average of 35.29 and 12.33, respectively. In non – specialized studying, faculty members of Agriculture College and Social Science College got the highest and the lowest quantity with the average of 10.10 and 2.33, respectively. The findings of the present study revealed that non- specialized studying quantity was significantly higher in men than women (p<0.001, t=-3.68).

Conclusion: The most important factor in reducing the amount of specialized and non-specialized studies of faculty members was individual problems and spending much time on teaching, respectively.
