Background and aim: Development of a country, mainly, depends on the development of science and technology. In this way, the first step to reach the goal is adequate and accurate understanding of scientific status. The aim of this study was to investigate the scientific status of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of agricultural and biological sciences among the member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during 1996-2014.
Material and methods: The current study was performed with a descriptive method using scientometric techniques. The scientific rank of the member states of OCI in the field of agricultural and biological sciences was examined by referring to Scopus Citation Database. The scientific rank was assessed and analyzed based upon "Documents", "Citations", "Self-citation", "Citations per Document" and "Hirsch index".
Findings: According to the obtained results, among 57 member States of OIC, Iran's H-Index is 79 with fourth rank, after Turkey (119), Malaysia (89), and Indonesia (80), respectively. In addition, according to the frequency of scientific documents, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Nigeria are identified as the top five countries.
Conclusion: Based on findings, the Islamic Republic of Iran has a good rank in the field of agricultural and biological sciences among the member States of OIC. Therefore, more attention to the quality of articles, leading to the increased "citations per document" can promote Iran's scientific status in the field of agricultural and biological sciences.
